The MEDICRAFT ANALGESIOMETER MARK - II
provides thermal stimulation in a rat’s tail. It is based on experiments
carried on a similar instrument in Department of Pharmacology, University
of Manchester. An adjustable loop of nichrome strip in direct thermal
contact with rat’s tail, provides variable thermal stimulus to elicit a
motor response to evaluate the analgesic potency of drugs.
The thermal stimulation is continuously
variable from ambient to 50°C and is monitored by a sensitive galvanometer
indicating its temperature.
The instrument works from 220 volts A.C.
only and is housed in an attractive steel cabinet. The accessories
supplied are one temperature probe and one rectangular clear Perspex rat
carrier.
