Evaluation of

The induction of broncho-constriction in guinea pigs by aerosolised histamine and its relief by anti-histamines has been a standard method of qualitative and quantitative assay of anti-histamines. The broncho-spasm can be consistently obtained by subjecting guinea pigs to nebulized histamine under standardised conditions and the activity of anti-histamines be assessed by their ability to protect against the histamine-induced broncho-spasm. 

The MEDICRAFT HISTOMETER or Histamine Aerosol Apparatus consist of :-

1. An Exposition Chamber, made of clear perspex sheet and mounted on a metal framework with stand. A widely perforated and sliding perspex partition sheet divides it into two compartments, each with its own sliding door. Two outlet ventilation holes are provided on top, one for each compartment. Each ventilation hole has a rotating shutter to regulate the out-going histamine vapours. A hole in the center of its back is the inlet for histamine vapor for both the compartments.

2. An all-glass nebulizer, which is easily fixed in position at the back inlet whenever required.

3. A dial type sphygmomanometer reading air pressure up to 300 mm. of mercury.
